FAQ's about Probiotic+

probiotic FAQs about Probiotic+ - Probiotic+ is our premium probiotic blend, and we get a lot of questions about what it is, how it works, and how to use it. Below we answer the most common queries in one place so you can choose confidently and get the best results.

How do we say Probiotic+?

It is pronounced Probiotic Plus. This is not a true FAQ, but we have heard some very creative interpretations of the name, so it is a helpful place to start.

What is lactobacillus?

You have probably noticed that most of the probiotics in Probiotic+ have names like L. rhamnosus and L. acidophilus. That 'L' stands for 'lactobacillus', a common group of bacteria found in fermented foods (like yogurt), on produce, and naturally in the human digestive system. The 'lacto' part refers to lactic acid, which these bacteria produce during fermentation. In the gut, lactic acid helps support a suitable pH environment, which can encourage beneficial microbes and make it harder for unwanted microbes to thrive, helping support a more balanced and functional microbiome.

Is Probiotic+ gluten free?

Probiotic+ contains no ingredients that contain gluten, and there are no gluten-containing products handled in our factory. While we have not completed the third-party testing required to make a formal gluten free claim, it is unlikely that there is any gluten in Probiotic+.

How does Probiotic+ compare to other products on the market?

There are several features that put Probiotic+ a step ahead in the probiotic market:

  • Potency and stability
  • Testing
  • It is also a prebiotic
Potency and stability of Probiotic+

Probiotic+ contains 30 billion probiotic bacteria in every dose. We also focus on stability so the strains are still viable when you take delivery and when you use the product. The star of the show is a spore-forming bacteria that you may see listed as Bacillus coagulans. It has also been known as Lactobacillus sporogenes and more recently Weizmannia coagulans, depending on naming conventions.

No matter the name, we love this beneficial germ. Because it can rest in a spore form, it is hardy through storage and only germinates and becomes active during digestion. This helps support consistent delivery for gut comfort, immune support, and nutrient absorption.

Apart from B. coagulans, we have 17 other diverse strains in Probiotic+. While these are not spore-forming, they are coated for stability using a process called 'algination'. This does not make them invincible, but careful handling during production helps them remain intact through to you.

Speaking of handling, when you buy Probiotic+ you know it has been looked after. We make all our product onsite and control storage conditions right up to shipping, which is not something every product can claim.

Testing of Probiotic+

Many probiotic products claim high numbers of beneficial bacteria, but viability can drop over time if manufacturing and storage are not tightly controlled. With Probiotic+ you can rest assured that quality is checked. We run a testing programme to help ensure that both ingredients and the finished product deliver what the label states.

Probiotic+ is also a prebiotic

A prebiotic is a type of non-digestible fibre found in many different foods. Prebiotics resist the initial stages of digestion and arrive more-or-less intact to the colon, where beneficial bacteria use the fibres for food. We've written more about prebiotics and why they matter in this post, and discussed fibre at length in this post. The prebiotic fibre we use in Probiotic+ is award winning Livaux™, which is made here in New Zealand from golden kiwifruit. There's an entire blog devoted to Livaux™ here.

What are the main benefits of taking Probiotic+?

Probiotic+ is primarily designed to benefit those dealing with digestive symptoms such as bloating, discomfort, diarrhoea and constipation. More broadly, a well-designed probiotic can also support immune function, help balance inflammation, and enhance nutrient absorption by supporting a healthier gut environment.

How long will it take to feel the benefits of taking Probiotic+?

The time it takes to experience benefits from Probiotic+ is individual. It depends on what your issue is, how long you have felt like that, and the impact of your overall lifestyle. Some people notice improvements in bloating, digestive comfort and bowel movements within days, while others need longer, so it is worth trialling for at least a few weeks and keeping a simple symptom diary. As well as gut changes, watch for improvements in energy and general wellbeing. One of the benefits of the Livaux™ is an increase in a gut microbe called f. prau. Increased levels of this species and corresponding improvements in feelings of wellness have been observed within a month of daily supplementation.

Is there collagen in Probiotic+?

Yes, there is collagen in Probiotic+, with 2000mg per dose.

Will I get skin health benefits from Probiotic+?

The amount of collagen in Probiotic+ is intended to support skin health benefits with consistent daily use. Your skin may also benefit indirectly from improved gut comfort and the broader wellbeing support that can come from probiotics and prebiotics.

How do I take Probiotic+ and what does it taste like?

Probiotic+ tastes nice. It is a sweet, slightly tangy peach flavour. The formulation mixes well with water, but you can also add it to smoothies, sprinkle it on your cereal, or stir it into cooked oats.

Can I take Probiotic+ every day?

Yes, Probiotic+ is designed for daily use. When you first take a high-dose probiotic like Probiotic+, there may be a short run-in period where you do not tolerate the full dose. This is normal and can be caused by changes in fermentation activity as your gut microbes adapt, so reduce to a half dose and try the full dose again in a week or so.

Is Probiotic+ shelf-stable? Can I keep it in the refrigerator?

Probiotic+ is shelf-stable, however it is best not to let it get too hot or humid. The Livaux™ and collagen can both absorb moisture and become a bit clumpy. If this happens, just give the jar a good shake and it will easily loosen up. Keeping Probiotic+ tightly sealed and in the fridge is a good idea for keeping it free flowing and maximising the shelf-life.

FAQ

What is a probiotic and what does it do?

A probiotic is a live microorganism that, when taken in adequate amounts, can support a healthy gut environment. It works by helping maintain a balanced community of microbes and supporting normal digestive function. For best results, take it consistently and give your body a few weeks to respond.

Should I take Probiotic+ with food or on an empty stomach?

Most people can take Probiotic+ with or without food, so choose the option you will stick with daily. Taking it with a meal can feel gentler for sensitive stomachs and can fit easily into a routine. If you notice any initial bloating, start with a half dose and build up.

What does 30 billion bacteria per dose mean in practice?

It refers to the approximate number of viable microbes included per serving at the time of manufacture and quality checks. A higher count can help deliver an effective amount, but strain selection and stability matter just as much. Store the jar sealed and away from heat and humidity to help protect viability.

Can probiotics cause gas or bloating at first?

Yes, some people notice temporary gas or bloating when starting a new probiotic. This can happen as your gut microbes adjust and fermentation patterns shift. Reduce to a half dose, keep hydration up, and increase gradually as tolerated.

What is the difference between a probiotic and a prebiotic?

A probiotic provides beneficial microbes, while a prebiotic provides fibre that feeds beneficial microbes already in your gut. Using both can be helpful because the fibre can support microbial activity and diversity over time. If you are increasing fibre, do it gradually and drink plenty of water.

How should I store Probiotic+ for best quality?

Keep Probiotic+ tightly sealed and protect it from heat and humidity. Refrigeration can help it stay free flowing and support long-term stability, especially in warmer months. If it clumps, shake the jar well to loosen it before use.

Can I take Probiotic+ alongside antibiotics?

Many people choose to take a probiotic during and after antibiotics to support gut comfort, but timing can matter. A simple approach is to separate your Probiotic+ dose from the antibiotic by a few hours. Continue for a few weeks after finishing antibiotics to support consistency.

We hope this FAQ roundup has helped answer some of the questions you may have about Probiotic+. If you have any questions that haven't been answered in this article, please make contact and we can help you. Keep an eye on this post too, we will update it as more questions come our way.
